The Challenge

Most people in the rural areas, the majority of whom are women, live in poverty. Rural communities have been neglected, lacking basic services like water, electricity, clinics, and schools. The Republic of Lesotho belongs to all who live in it, but for too long, access to land and resources has been unequal.

Our Solution

A CYED government will introduce a comprehensive rural development programme. Central in the development programme will be job creation through industrial development and opportunities for small business, alongside land reform. We will focus on provision of water, clinics, schools, toilet facilities, electricity, telephones and roads to all rural areas.

Implementation

In addition to opportunities which our programme will open for rural people, an CYED government will work with communities, traditional leaders, and development partners to implement rural transformation. We will establish a Land Claims Court to handle restitution fairly and efficiently. Development agencies will be restructured to serve farmers rather than bureaucrats.
