The Challenge

A roof over one's head and reasonable living conditions are not a privilege. They are a basic right for every human being. The current government did not do much in preserving the dignity of our people. Influx control and a lack of urban planning have resulted in a crisis that is at the very root of many of our social problems. Women were denied the right to own houses. Decent family life has been denied to millions of people.

Our Solution

As CYED, we commit to build houses for our people and we will go the extra mile in approaching international stakeholders to support this initiative. We will focus on formalizing squatters' camps and building for the homeless, and the upgrading of townships. The CYED will work with building societies and other banks and financial institutions to ensure that people have the loans and means to build their own houses.

Implementation

The CYED will establish partnerships with international development organizations, building societies, banks, and community structures to implement this ambitious housing programme. We will create a phased implementation plan with clear targets for each year, ensuring that progress is measurable and accountable. Democratic councils will work directly with communities to identify priorities and implement solutions.

Housing plans will take into account the need for people to stay close to where they work and the need to build efficient transport systems and to provide recreational and other basic facilities.

Take the stand. Support housing for all.
